FREELANCE SERVICES

eDITING

I list my pricing upfront for transparency purposes, but I am also flexible to work on an hourly, word, or page basis. I can also offer a sliding scale for students and marginalized writers. Email ariadnemakridakis@gmail.com with your specific request.

Developmental/Content Editing ($50/hour; $5/page)
Developmental editing is typically a form of editing within the publishing industry where the editor focuses on larger or big-picture issues present in a story, such as plot, structure, pacing, and character development. Please note this is not a line-by-line/proofreading editorial consultation. At this time, I do not offer those services, but I may point out larger structural issues (if I see a repetitive pattern that affects the story as a whole). I’m more interested in telling you how you can improve your story from a holistic standpoint, as opposed to being knit-picky about spelling or grammar.

I have a keen eye for pointing out areas where a creative work may fall flat, need cuts, or be underdeveloped while also respecting the integrity or intention of the piece. I am best suited to offer advice for shorter literary works like poetry, chapbooks, and short stories, but I am willing to take a knack at longer works.

Authenticity & Sensitivity Reads ($75/hour, $7.5/page)
Authenticity reads (also called sensitivity reads) are when a person of a particular background reads a manuscript to see how this background is portrayed in the text, usually when written by an author not of that background. This is typically to promote authenticity of that character while avoiding the promotion of harmful stereotypes.

I identify as a queer Latina of mixed ancestry, a child of immigrants, impacted by the carceral and psychiatric systems. Therefore, the broad categories I can do authenticity reads for are Latine and/or Greek representation, child of immigrants’ experiences, certain psychiatric disabilities, queer representation, justice-impacted individuals, and intersections among these. I will never do an authenticity read for an identity I don’t resonate with, as I wouldn’t be the best source to adequately represent folks of that specific background. If you ever have any specific questions about what I’m able to do a sensitivity read for, you can always email me using the contact noted above.

I reserve the right to charge more depending on how much work needs to be done. I will provide a 2+ page letter with specific quotes/examples from the book. I have a background in queer/feminist theory, critical race theory, and postcolonial theory, so when relevant, I may even include outside sources for further research. Rush jobs can be considered at a higher rate, but depending on the project, my turnaround time is typically 1-2 months.

Readings/Writing Workshops

Since I’m a writer, you can also book me for a reading or workshop. :) My contact page is the best way to get in touch with me for such inquiries.

I am most adept with hosting poetry workshops but also have experience with fiction and nonfiction. I’ve hosted previous workshops on writing epistolary poems and enjoy centering conversations around the intersection of writing, spirituality, ancestral veneration, and all things espooky.

For events, I charge a one-time flat rate that ranges between $150-$300.
